1 February 2001
In a recent poll, the Bach Stradivarius trumpet manufactured at the Vincent Bach division of The Selmer Company, Elkhart, Ind., was voted Band and Orchestral Product of the Year by readers of Musical Merchandise Review, an industry trade publication. The Dealer’s Choice Award poll was conducted among music stores and musical instrument dealers nationwide, and ranks musical instruments by category. The award was presented at the 2001 NAMM Show in Anaheim in January.
According to Stan Garber, marketing manager, “In musician circles, the Stradivarius trumpet has been the professional’s choice for many years. It’s an honor to have the retailers recognize it as product of the year.” Bach Stradivarius trumpets, noted for their fullness of sound and projection, are found in symphony orchestra, jazz ensembles, and concert bands around the world.
The legendary trumpet is the epitome of skilled craftsmanship and superior processes and materials. The Bach family of trumpets encompasses everything from the highest piccolo trumpet to the lowest bass trumpet. While the model 180S37 has become the most widely used Bb trumpet in the world, Bach can literally build tens of thousands of different models by allowing musicians to customize from a wide assortment of bells, lead pipes, bore sizes, finishes and other options.
The Legend of Vincent Bach The original Vincent Bach trumpets were created in 1924 by a European musician entrepreneur with a background in engineering. Born Vincent Schrotenbach in Vienna in 1890, he adopted the stage name Vincent Bach early in his career as a performing musician. World renowned for superior quality mouthpieces, Bach built a successful brass instrument business. Trumpeters of the era referred to his first trumpet as a “real Stradivarius of a trumpet” and the famous Bach Stradivarius brand was born. At the age of 71, in 1961, Bach sold his business to The Selmer Company in Elkhart, Ind. True to Vincent Bach’s vision, The Selmer Company today painstakingly follows Bach’s original designs and blueprints to manufacture Bach Stradivarius instruments, the choice of artists worldwide.
